For people with different ideas to live together, they must respect each other. Such a respect can only come from a pure and calm state of mind. These words have long expressed the spirit of the tea ceremony, and are also often taken up in Zen.
Everything has become so extreme that we can no longer feel joy or beauty in small things, and it may be difficult to keep our minds calm. I myself feel a strong sense of anger toward politics and the fraudulent economy.
In our small garden we have a beautiful maple tree with fresh green leaves, and seeing the morning light shining on it I can tell it is definitely good for the brain and the soul. Then, at a certain time in the evening, light reflected from the building opposite shines into the garden. These photos were taken in that light. I treasure the brief moments of morning and evening on clear days when I can see these views – quiet, pure and beautiful. It allows me to reset my mind and brain to a calm state. It may be a small thing, but it may actually be the most important thing. There may be a lot of bad news coming our way in the future, but we must try to keep our brains and hearts as calm as possible.
The other day I wrote a blog titled 89 Seconds, but there may already be less than 60 seconds left….
