Aka Shino Wan | Masayuki HIGUCHI
赤志野碗 | 樋口雅之
Size(cm)W12H9.4
It is a work of such size and dignity that it would not be an exaggeration to call it a chawan.
The deep adzuki bean color is attractive, and the light blue-like gray accents here and there are beautiful.
When comparing vessels with a diameter of 10.5cm and 12cm, the size and impression are quite different.
Although it is a rough guide, the Kofukuwan that we have introduced many times is the former size, while most Chawan are larger than the latter size.
The added thickness and height give it a much more substantial appearance.

The piece is just the size of a kofukuwan. This is a vessel for drinking small amounts of matcha, but it can also be used in everyday life for holding coffee or other drinks. It can also be placed in a basket and used as a chawan when traveling (=Tabi Chawan).
Seeing is believing, I took a photo of the two side by side for comparison, but in reality it seems like there is a bigger difference than the photo suggests (though this photo may not be very helpful).
