Bi no Tsubo
“Appreciation Manual: The Bi no Tsubo” is an educational program (art criticism program) that NHK began broadcasting on April 7, 2006.
This is a popular program that conveys the appeal of traditional crafts and other things. The kanji for the title of the show is “Beautiful Pot.” It means something like “Beautiful Point.” The program will feature Bizen ware. This is the third time that the program has featured Bizen ware.
The director came to my gallery after going to various places to do research. After exchanging opinions, he returned to Tokyo. Later, they contacted us to say they would like to interview the ceramic artist, Sei Hoshino and us.
The interview and filming took place during the hottest part of midsummer. There was not much time left until the shoot date, so we were not able to fully prepare. The flowers were also in poor condition, as they were suffering from the midsummer heat. The air conditioning was on full power, but I imagine it was very hard for the film crew from morning to night. It will actually be edited and shortened, but I’m looking forward to seeing how it turns out. I was very nervous during the interview. We are grateful that Bizen ware is being featured in such a popular program. We are also honored to have been interviewed. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone.
To commemorate the opportunity to appear on TV, we would like to be holding an exhibition of Hoshino san at the Gallery.
