Place for interaction
This is the only place we go to every month since we came to Kyoto.
The location is a 1 minute walk from our gallery.
This shop is run by the daughter of a father who is a kimono artist.
There, we can listen to live piano performances every first Saturday of the month.
Local people gather here, from young people in their 20s to people in their 90s.
Spending time listening to Mr. Ikeda’s expressive piano performance enriches our hearts.
For those of us who are from Tokyo, interacting with local people is a precious time.
However, we received word tonight that it would be closed due to earthquake (seismic strengthand) noise issues. It looks like they will have to move because the landlord has made that decision. After the move, it seems that there will be no live piano performances. The risks of large earthquakes and noise issues are very sensitive issues, but the loss of valuable gathering places and the good old townscape leave us with mixed feelings. For us, too, it is a great loss to lose contact with the people we became close with there. Tonight, a woman in her 90s also went home very disappointed with the news. It appears that the piano installed there will also be sold off.
It looks like next month’s performance will be the last.
Unfortunately, we are also powerless and can’t do anything…Is there any good solution?
