We have received a new series of saishoku works from Abe sensei, who is now 88 years old.
In Japan, there is a custom of celebrating the longevity of people who turn 88 years old.
Previously, when his works were acquired by the National Palace Museum in Taiwan, we held a celebration, and several of Abe sensei’s classmates attended. Even then, Abe sensei seemed more than 10 years younger than his classmates.
Those who are constantly immersed in the world of art and expression, and who possess a strong sense of curiosity, may be able to maintain their youth. That’s what I strongly felt.
Not only is what is expressed modern, but it is also extremely well-crafted.It is filled with the profound experience and knowledge that Abe sensei has gained from exploring art over many years.I don’t think it’s easy to imitate these things.
Mr. Abe, who comes from a painting background, has studied various styles, including those of Chojiro and Oribe, and incorporated those elements into his ceramic works. I feel that it is truly special that someone with such backgrounds can create works like these. Is it a woman or a man? What is this person thinking? Many things can be inferred from this expression.
I feel that this expression is well-suited to the current times and the current global situation.
What do you feel?
