He was one of the leading and most respected ceramic artists representing Bizen during the Showa and Heisei eras.
This piece is made using high-quality rice paddy clay and fired using a method developed by Mr. Sozan Kaneshige himself, resulting in excellent craftsmanship. The magnificent black lacquered wooden box, the bag made of high-quality fabric, the tasteful ivory lid—every accessory is superb. It feels wonderful to hold in your hand.The condition is very good, almost like new.
“Katatsuki” refers to one of the shapes of “chaire” (tea caddies) used in the Japanese tea ceremony. It is characterized by a shoulder-like section just below the rim that is sharply and horizontally flared. It is considered the most prestigious shape of tea caddy, and many masterpieces exist.
