A shijiko (four-lugged jar) is a jar featuring four “lugs” on its shoulder, designed for threading cords to secure the lid.
It is highly likely that this was originally made as a vessel for holding water, sake, or high-quality tea leaves.
It was one of the finest examples of Japanese ceramics from the medieval period (Kamakura to Muromachi eras).
It has an appealing texture and color.
